Yes, We Cant is our regular spoken word night which started at The Pretty Bricks in Walsall but since COVID-19 has reappeared on Zoom with occasional outings at Wolves Lit Fest. It’s built a well-deserved reputation for bringing top-notch poetry and spoken word to our region.
Each month we bring you a headline guest, plucked from among the best the poetry world has to offer, an ‘Alf Ender (a local poet with a book or books for sale) and ten open mic spots. Past headliners read like a line-up of the poetry great and good: Elvis McGonagall, The Antipoet, Melanie Branton, Johnny Fluffypunk, Brenda Read-Brown, Nafeesa Hahmid, Rick Dove, Liz Berry, Luke Wright, Jonathan Edwards, Rosie Garland, and many, many more.
Open mic slots are made available before the event. Hit us up on social media, email or shouting loudly through an open window and we will put you down.
Yes, We Cant is on the first Sunday of each month. We go for a 7.30pm start and – as Monday is a school day – finish by 9.30pm so everyone can get a good night’s sleep. It is a pay-as-you-feel event and you can drop money into our virtual act to help pay the featured poets. Come along and see what you’ve been missing!
