WoLF Poetry Comp 2025

On November 1st 2024, Wolverhampton Literature Festival opens its poetry competition to poets from across the globe for the eighth consecutive year. The competition this year will once again be an ‘open’ one, so send us poems on whatever subject you like. Surprise us, enthral us, astound us, but make sure you send your entries in before December 31st!

1st prize for this competition is £400. 2nd prize, £150. There are three 3rd prizes of £25. There is an additional prize of £50 for the best poem sent in by someone living in a WV postcode. You’ll find details of how to submit, and the rules for the competition, further down the page. Please read them carefully. Poems will be read, and winners chosen, by our judge Holly Magill. The WV postcode winner will be chosen by Dave Pitt.

Our Judge

Holly Magill is co-editor of Atrium poetry magazine. Her poetry has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. She won first prize in the 2019 Cannon Poets ‘Sonnet or Not’ competition, and her debut pamphlet, The Becoming of Lady Flambé, is available from Indigo Dreams Publishing. Her second, 20, was published in 2023 by Drunk Muse Press. She is fond of cats and strong tea above most things.

A note from Holly on judging the WoLF poetry competition

I am thrilled to be judging the Wolverhampton Literary Festival Poetry Competition and am very much looking forward to reading what I’m sure will be an eclectic and exciting variety of work. It’s difficult to be specific in what I am looking for because – as I have found co- editing Atrium – great poems have a wonderful habit of zinging from the page to completely knock your socks off when least expected. Surprise me!
